During the summer of 2009, hundreds of kids across Stark County participated in water conservation workshops hosted by ArtsinStark, the County Arts Council, and sponsored by the Herbert W. Hoover Foundation.
These workshops culminated with the unveiling of the “Waterless Aquarium” at the monthly First Friday celebration on September 4, 2009. More than 100 fish made out of recycled materials — permanent, large ones created by professional artists, and temporary, smaller ones created by kids from plastic bottles — covered the Kresge greenspace in the Canton’s new Arts District. The message: “Don’t teach your trash to swim.”
The permanent sculptures became part of the ever-growing public art collection in the Canton Arts District.
